Vortice appoints new apprentice

19 year old Owen Butler has joined us as an apprentice within the technical department, working towards his advanced apprenticeship. This is the first time we have been involved in an apprentice scheme and we called upon local Apprenticeship, Employment and Training agency Impact to help.

50 candidates applied for the position, these were shortlisted down to three who were interviewed at Vortice and Owen came top of the selection process. Having completed an engineering diploma at Burton College, Owen’s interests are engineering, football, golf and running. He has also been supporting himself during his education by working part time in a pub.

Owen will be working in the technical department and will be doing day release at Stevensons College in Coalville. Technical and Quality Manager Mark Cowburn said: “We are delighted to welcome Owen to the Vortice technical team and have enjoyed working with Impact through the recruitment process – they will also be arranging Owen’s ongoing training at Coalville.”

We love thank yous!

It's been a week of thank yous for the team here at Vortice. First we received a lovely letter from Paul Bentley of Services 4 Seniors in Sevenoaks because we'd helped him rescue an elderly couple who'd been victims of rogue builders and were suffering from condensation problems - they're now happily sorted out with ventilation fans which are up to the job. Next we received a letter from Brookfield Primary School PTFA in Mickleover whose Summer Fayre we'd supported and finally we received a lovely letter thanking us for the £350 donation we'd made to Macmillan Cancer Support, a cause close to our hearts. Makes it all worthwhile!

Vortice has launched its new BPEC training courses

Vortice has launched a two day BPEC training course aimed at providing ventilation contractors with all they need to know to make best use of today’s energy efficient ventilation products.

The two day course will cost £295 + VAT per delegate exclusive of accommodation and will be run by the Vortice technical department at their Burton on Trent training centre.  Courses will take place on the last Thursday and Friday of each month from June 2013 onwards.

General Manager Kevin Hippey said: “As ventilation products become more sophisticated, the importance of training those designing and installing the systems, including ductwork becomes more vital, otherwise energy efficiencies can be lost as a result of poor design or bad installation.  We’re delighted to be launching this two day course which we know will reap dividends for installers and developers alike.”

Vortice team plants trees in the National Forest

A team from the Vortice Burton on Trent head office donned wellington boots and carried spades to go and plant 500 trees as part of their on-going sponsorship of the National Forest. Luckily they chose a day before winter decided to re-appear and as you'll see from the photograph it was a rare dry day! Well done Paul Gunner, Nathan Bradshaw, Jane Miller and Claire Miller (ably assisted by Olivia Miller).
